Ethiopian Deaf EXP: Proverbs Series

Inspired by Stefy Loret de Mola’s More Than Words Can Say graphic series, I collaborated with members of the Ethiopian Deaf EXP—a project based in Addis Ababa dedicated to creating positive awareness about deafness, deaf culture, and sign language in Ethiopia—to create a series of posters depicting various Ethiopia adages signed in Ethiopian Sign Language. The project aims to not only showcase the distinctive movements of Ethiopian Sign Language, but also serves as a visual reconciliation of language, unspoken-words, tradition, and ritual.
